When she was about 9-10 months old I gave her pretty much whatever we ate at the table except of course, seafood, peanut, tree nut, berries, eggs. She had our table food along with her formula, but as soon as I started her on solids, she pooped all the time and would have at least 3 soiled diapers within an hour and it was runny diarrhea. She developed such a bad diaper rash cuz she pooped all the time. So I was thinking that her stomach couldn’t handle regular food yet so I put her back on Gerber baby food but she didn’t like that anymore since she had tasted real food. As of late, all I have been feeding her is Baby O organic yogurt and organic applesauce along with her formula but she’s mostly just drinking formula. I am sure she is so sick of the yogurt and applesauce. She will be a year old in a week and I can start to give her whole milk instead of formula but I am hesitant that her stomach might get messed up again.

I’m not sure what else to feed her and I know she needs other nutrients other than milk. How can I tell she has food allergies to wheat, gluten, etc?

Thus, a baby’s earliest solid foods should be mostly animal foods since his digestive system, although immature, is better equipped to supply enzymes for digestion of fats and proteins rather than carbohydrates.

take her to a doctor and get her tested it sounds like she may have an issue with gluten

Well, a good way to test it is to take her off gluten for a few days to see if that’s causing it. That will cover allergies to wheat, barley, rye, etc. As far as the other things, I would have her tested for food allergies by a doctor. The reason I suggest just eliminating the gluten is because it could be either a gluten allergy or celiac disease, which is different from an allergy and the testing for that is much more involved (blood test + endoscopy). If you’re confused about all this, I would speak to her pediatrician. And don’t let them tell you it’s all in your head! You know your kid better than anyone else! I had a terrible reaction to cereals when my mom first fed them to me and it wasn’t until 28 years later and many many health problems that I myself pinpointed the problem. Go with your gut, but don’t be afraid to ask for help.
